The students participated in an activity in science called “The Marshmallow Challenge”. Each group of students was given 20 uncooked pieces of spaghetti, a yard of masking tape, a yard of string, and a marshmallow. Students were challenged to work in groups of 4-5 to build the tallest free-standing tower to hold the marshmallow that they could. They were given 18 minutes to complete the challenge. A total of 15 groups participated in the challenge, but only 3 groups build a tower that would stand and hold the marshmallow. Our winning tower was 17 inches tall and those students won a free homework pass. The goal of the challenge was to learn to listen to each other’s ideas, work together in an appropriate manner, and to follow directions. Attached are pictures of some of the towers being built.
I really liked the marshmallow challenge, it was fun. And I liked building the cars with the connect pieces.
Looks Fun!!!!!
