Week of February 8-12th!!!

Welcome to another wonderful week in fourth grade! I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend and caught some of the Super Bowl on Sunday. We have another busy week this week. Here are some important dates to remember:
1. Wednesday, February 10th: PTA meeting 6:30
2. Friday, February 12th: we will pass out Valentines to our classmates
3. Friday, February 12th: Bookmobile visits
4. Student Council is selling heart-o-grams this week before school for 50 cents each
5. There is no school on Monday, February 15th due to President’s Day
6. Next week we will get a chance to take a practice MAP test for fourth grade. This is designed to give students a feel for what the actual MAP test will look like in April/May.

ELA: We will continue our focus on nonfiction this week. We will discuss text features that authors add to their text to help the reader learn/understand new information. This includes bold words, captions, illustrations, maps, diagrams, etc. Students will go on several Text Features scavenger hunts and practice using text features throughout the week. Check out these websites for practice:
1. text features definitions and examples
2. text features online quiz
3. text features online games

Science:
This week will serve as a review week. We will be ready to take our unit 20 test by the middle of next week. Look for a study guide and flash cards coming home later this week. We will review static electricity, current electricity, transfer of energy, natural resources, and types of energy. Students can go back to any science activity between this week and early December for practice.
