Week of January 21st-25th!!!

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr week! I hope everyone enjoyed their time off on Monday, but also thought about how we can all make the world a better place, just like Dr. King did. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King is:

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

This is something I try to instill in both my own sons, as well as my students every year.

Here are some upcoming important dates:
Monday: no school
Tuesday: read 20 minutes, rl, beginning orchestra concert 6:30 @ HWHS
Wednesday: read 20 minutes, rl
Thursday: read 20 minutes, rl
Friday: reading logs due

ELA: This week we are continuing our unit on theme, mythology, legends, and comparing/contrasting 2 or more stories. We will also end the week by learning about first and third person point of view. Our spelling words are base words with the -ar, -er, and -or suffix. We will also begin learning about the four types of context clues. Context clues are words we look for in a story or sentence when we don’t know what a word means. The clues give us an idea about the meaning of the unknown word. Check out the following practice activities:

1. Context Clues game
2. Point of View Spaceship game
3. Point of View video and quiz

Science:
We will continue observing our bean plant experiments this week to see if lack of water, light, and air affects their sprouting and growth. We will also begin talking about decomposition and how living matter breaks down after it dies. Check out the following to practice:

1. The Great Plant Escape
2. Plant Life Cycle game
3. Break it Down game
