Week of September 3rd-7th!!

Sorry I am just now updating our blog. With Labor Day and a teacher meeting yesterday, this is the first chance I have had to update. Here are some upcoming important dates:

Monday: no school- Labor Day
Tuesday: read 20 minutes
Wednesday: read 20 minutes
Thursday: read 20 minutes
Friday: Wildcat Assembly at 2:45, popcorn day 25 cents

ELA: We are learning two new sound patterns in spelling: -eave (leave, heave, sheave, cleave) and -edge (hedge, ledge, fledge, pledge). Our spelling test will be a week from Friday. We are continuing our unit on making inferences this week, as well as taking our first Evaluate Assessment. The Evaluate Assessment asks 25 questions covering all fourth grade learning targets for the year. I goal is to see students increase their score throughout the year as we learn and practice more. Here are some helpful places to practice our skills:
1. Spelling City– spelling games, click on September 3-14
2. Inferences Jeopardy game
3. Big Buck Bunny– watch the cartoon and practice making inferences about how the characters feel, think, etc

Science:
We are continuing our work with plates and fossils this week, focusing on how we know that the oldest fossils are found at the bottom layers of rock while younger fossils are found near the top layers. Check out these practice activities:
1. What are fossils? video
2. Earth Layers Soccer Game
3. Jeopardy review game
