Week of September 11th-15th!!!

Welcome to another wonderful week in fourth grade! Here are some upcoming important dates:
1. ELA homework: read 20 minutes a night for Monday through Thursday and complete your reading log nightly.
2. ELA homework: reading logs due on Friday
3. PTA Meeting on September 13th at 6:30pm
4. Picture day is Friday, September 15th!

ELA: This week we have added the following words to our spelling list: health, wealth, stealth, heave, leave, weave, cleave, and sheave. We will have our first spelling test this Friday (there was a mistake last week and we could not take the test). We are focusing on explaining connections between text and experiences in the world. Since we are reading a book titled “Caleb’s Choice”, we will compare it to the song lyrics of “Respect” and “Respect Yourself”. These songs were both written during the time of Jim Crow laws and some of the lyrics deal with issues that also appear in our chapter book. Here are some practice pages:
1. DOGO News– articles for kids about current events
2. Making Connections Game
3. Into the Book Activity– enter your name on the home screen, click on the bridge picture: Making Connections, choose an activity

Science: This week we are learning to use a new science tool: the spring scale. We can use this to measure both mass and weight of an object. This week we will focus on finding mass. We will also begin our unit on phases of matter. Check out the practice pages below:
1. Spring Scale Simulation
2. Spring Scale video
3. ABCya! States of Matter lesson and game
