Week of September 28th-October 2nd

I can’t believe that we are starting the month of October later this week. This school year is flying by. This week we have our first reading logs/reading comprehension worksheets due on Wednesday. Any student who turns them in on time will be given an extra recess. We also have our popcorn day on Friday (25 cents) and Wildcat Assembly at 2:45. Here is a look at our week:

ELA: We are reviewing all learning targets this week for first quarter. We will take the unit test on the learning targets on Wednesday and Thursday. The learning targets include elements of poetry, drama, and prose, cause and effect, fact and opinion, inferences, and using details from the story. This is a hard to study for test because these skills apply to every story you read, so I can’t just send home one. A great way to study is to go back and watch some of the videos/do some of the activities on the weekly pages of the website to practice. Students will be doing practice pages daily to bring home and review as well.

Science: We are starting a new, quick, unit on how scientists ask and answer questions. Students will learn the specific process for asking a testable question and going through the steps to answer their question. We will not have a formal test because this unit is only about one week long, but we will revisit it throughout the school year. After this unit, we will begin our unit on Earth Materials including minerals, rocks, fossils, the rock cycle, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Look for videos and activities on earth materials next week.
