ELA: This week we will focus on words with the -irth (birth, mirth, firth, girth) and the -itch (ditch, hitch, pitch, witch, switch) sound patterns. We will not have a spelling test next week due to the short week, so our next test will be on November 29th. We are also starting a new unit on Firsthand and Secondhand Accounts. A firsthand account is a statement from a person who actually was at the site of something and tells about it. These include diary entries, interviews, and autobiographies. Secondhand accounts are facts told by someone who has researched an event. These include newspaper articles, tv news broadcasts, and magazine stories. Check out the following practice pages:

1. Firsthand and Secondhand Accounts Jeopardy
2. Firsthand and Secondhand Accounts Prezi
3. Blastoff Game

Science: We are learning how to calculate speed in science class. We are trying different exercises such as walking backwards and hopping and then calculating our rate of speed. We will also test speed of a ball by raising and lowering a ramp. Finally, we will test how speed and motion energy can be transferred into sound energy. Check out the following practice pages:

1. Distance, Time, and Speed Challenge (tricky!)
2. Speed Review and Quiz
