Week of August 28th-September 1st!

Welcome back to another wonderful week of fourth grade! Here are some important reminders for this week:

1. Reading Homework: read 20 minutes a night and complete the reading log
2. Reading Log is due Thursday, August 31st (don’t forget to get it signed)
3. No school on Friday, September 1st for Teacher Professional Development
4. No school on Monday, September 4th for Labor Day

ELA: This week we are wrapping up our unit on character and setting, and moving on to our unit on Making Inferences/Drawing Conclusions. This means that students use clues in the story to make an educated guess about a character’s feelings/thoughts/motive even when they are not directly stated. We are also starting our first spelling words for the year. This week, our words all have the same spelling pattern of -aunch and include the words: haunch, paunch, and launch. We will have spelling tests every other week, and our first one will be on September 8th. Here are some practice activities to go along with this week’s learning targets:
1. Detective’s Notebook Game
2. Inference Riddles
3. Inference Trivia Game

Science: We continue our unit on matter by learning new ways to measure matter. This week we will focus on measuring the mass of an object. Check out these practice activities:
1. Practice with an online scale for mass
2. Virtual Balance Game
3. Practice Finding the Mass of Sugar (kinda tricky- but a good challenge)

I hope everyone has an amazing week!
