Week of April 17th-21st!

I hope everyone enjoyed their nice, long weekend. It gave me a peek at what summer break is going to be like, and I can’t wait for sunshine and sleeping in! We still have 27.5 days left this year, so let’s get to the important details:

Tuesday, April 19th: last Bookmobile check-out of the year
Wednesday, April 20th: Pencil Palace and Early Dismissal at 2:50
Thursday, April 21st: Kindergarten Registration 4:30-6:30 and Movie Night at Walker 6-7:30
Monday, April 24th: first day of Fourth Grade MAP testing and Honor Roll Dinner starts at 5:00 pm
Wednesday, April 26th: MAP testing

ELA: I told students that this week I like to call our lessons “hodge-podge” because we will learn/review a lot of small things every day this week and sprinkle in some new ideas as well. We will cover fact versus opinion, firsthand and secondhand accounts, modal auxiliaries, adjective order, formal/informal English, and learning about how to take the MAP test on our Chromebooks. Check out these websites for extra practice:
1. MAP ELA practice test
2. Writing Practice Test
3. Language Practice Test

Science: We are finishing up our unit on forests, prairies, and pond ecosystems and will begin to study the living things in those ecosystems in more detail. This week students will choose a bird that may be commonly seen in our school ecosystem to complete a brochure on. Students will use their chrombooks to identify facts about the bird such as what it eats, what it makes a shelter/nest out of, when it is in Missouri, etc. Students will create a brochure on their bird and share it with other students. Check out these practice activities below:
1. Missouri Bird Field Guide
2. Feed the Dingo ecosystems game
3. Make a Mangrove ecosystem game
