Week of September 19th-23rd!

Hello Room 16! Can you believe that fall starts later this week? I guess it still feels like summer thanks to this hot weather we are having. Here are some important upcoming reminders:
Wednesday, September 21st: early dismissal at 2:50
Thursday, September 22nd: chorus
Friday, September 23rd: reading logs due (must be signed!)
Friday, September 30th: science unit test (study guides have already gone home)
Friday, September 30th: every students should have at least 1 chapter book read and a Reading Counts quiz passed

ELA:
This week we are focusing on the sound pattern -eech (screech, leech, speech, etc). We will also spend some time learning about open syllables. Open syllables are syllables that end in a vowel. Examples include pa – per and to -day. Both pa- and to- are open syllables. We will also learn about the elements of poetry, drama, and prose. Check out the links below:

Science:
We will finish our lesson on mixtures and solutions this week and then begin our physical and chemical changes lesson. Physical changes are changes to matter that don’t create a new substance. Examples include tearing, bending, stretching, etc. Chemical changes are changes to matter that create a new substance. Examples include burning wood to make ash, combining chemicals to make a glow, etc. Check out these websites below:
