Week of November 16th-20th

Welcome to a rainy week 🙁 . I guess we shouldn’t complain with some of the beautiful weekends we have had this fall already. We have a pretty regular week this week with just a few reminders:

1. Pencil Palace takes place this Wednesday.
2. We will have early dismissal on Wednesday at 2:50.
3. Keep working on your reading logs. You should be reading 20 minutes a night.

ELA: We will revisit our making inferences unit this week in reading. We make inferences about ideas in a story when we use what we already know about a topic and the clues that are in the story. Check out the following links below to practice. Our sound pattern this week is -ince (since, wince, etc) and our suffix is -ness (darkness, sadness, happiness, etc). We will also focus on an academic vocabulary word of explicit (which means giving exact or specific details about something).
1. Inference Riddles
2. Inferences Song
3. Inferences Practice based on a commercial

Science:
We took the unit test last Friday. The students went over their test today, and anyone who scored a D or F on the test can fix any mistaken questions for 1/2 credit. This assignment is due Wednesday, and no late work will be accepted. We are going to extend our lesson with some practice making “earthquake proof” structures this week, and then moving on to our next unit-Energy and Magnetism. Check out some activities below to get a head start on the next unit.
1. What is Energy online activity
2. Overview of Energy
3. Energy Star Kids
