Week of November 9th – 13th!

Happy Monday everyone! We have a pretty normal week to look forward to. Please remember that K.I.S.S. forms are due back to school tomorrow, November 10th. Our Kids Invite Someone Special day will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 2:15 pm. I am looking forward to meeting some very special people!

ELA: We will work on the sound pattern -ield(shield, field) and the prefix mis- (misbehave, misconduct, misfortune). We are also beginning to add one academic vocabulary word a day to our lesson. This week we will discuss the meaning of culture, descriptive, dialogue, and explicit. These are words that often appear in assessments and assignments students will have to complete in the future, and we want them to know the meaning. Our skills this week will discuss firsthand and secondhand accounts of the same historical event. A firsthand account comes from a person who actually witnessed or experienced the event. This can come from an interview, diary entry, quote, etc. A secondhand account comes from someone who has researched the event or topic. This can come from biographies, nonfiction text, encyclopedias, etc. Check out the practice activities below:
1. Firsthand and Secondhand Accounts Video
2. Prezi about the Dust Bowl
3. Learning Farm practice website

Science: This Friday is our Chapter 5 test!!! You should have taken home the study guide last Friday. This week we will play practice games on Monday, complete the Jeopardy review game on Tuesday, make flash cards and complete a sample assessment on Wednesday, and complete a sample test on Thursday. Please check back at an prior weeks to review for the test on chapter 5: classification of rocks, mineral properties, the rock cycle, volcanoes and earthquakes, geologists, etc. I am looking forward to grading some really good answers!
