Info about Mrs. Heckstetter

Hello students and families!

This is my 23rd year teaching and my 21st at Walker Elementary.  I am so excited for the 2023-2024 school year, and can’t wait for all of the learning activities and projects we are going to do.  I am making it a personal goal to continue my classroom blog where I can share information with students and parents, as well as allow the students to blog about what they are learning about in class.  I currently teach reading and science. Please email me at sheckstr@hazelwoodschools.org or call 314-953-4900 if you have any questions or comments.

  1. Hi. My anole died the other day. Today I went to PETCO and got a leopard gecko. She is a baby. I can’t wait to watch her grow. Her name is Gabbie. With proper care, leopard geckos can live up to 10+ years. I will keep you updated on Gabbie. Bye!

  2. The other day was the first day I held Gabbie. Today I held her again. She didn’t try to run away. I think she trusts me. Once I get a picture of her, maybe one morning before school I could come up to your room and give a picture of her to you. Bye!

  3. Today I held Gabbie. She got a lot of exercise! She ran across my hands really fast! My dad was a little jealous so he held Gabbie too. My whole family loves her. She is really pretty. Bye!

  4. I’m so sorry it is taking so long to get a picture of Gabbie. Our printer is out of ink. Gabbie is doing great! How is science going in 4th grade? Since we are off on the 25th and 26th I’m going to see Hotel Translyvannia. I’m also getting a betta fish. I finally have enough money. I’m going to name him Bam-Bam. Bye!

    1. Science is going great. We are getting ready to start our magnetism and electricity unit, which should be fun!

      1. I like science because my teacher is amazing and we do a lot of fun things in her class and her name is Mrs.Goodman!

    1. They are doing great, although having 16 to take care of is a little difficult. One of the schools did not want their lizards, so we adopted them. How is your lizard.

  5. Gabbie is doing great! She recently shed her skin. I had to help her a little bit.I put a tree in her cage and she loves it. She gets on the leaves all the time. If there is ever a day you are out, I would be happy to take care of the lizards for you.

    1. Great news on the shed, that means she is healthy and growing. Thanks for the offer to take care of the lizards, I may take you up on that some day. I am glad I gave them extra food yesterday since we are out of school today.

  6. What a snow day! I tried to shovel driveways but I didn’t make any money. That’s okay. My sister and I played in the snow. We sledded too. I had lots of fun today. How is your snow day going?

    1. We want out sledding and ended up getting faces full of ice pellets. Ouch! I wonder if we will have school tomorrow? What do you think?

  7. I don’t think we will have school tomorrow at this rate. The snow is coming down really fast and hard. I think Gabbie is glad I am home. The only thing is she sleeps all day. Do you have two cages for all of the lizards?

  8. I would like to see the anoles that you got this year. If someday before school starts, can you call Mrs.Pierce to send me up? If you can, thank you.

    1. Yes, that would be fine, but I can only stay in my room until 8:15 because of run/walk club.

  9. Hi Mrs. Heckstetter! Middle school is awesome! I love going to all of my classes and having a locker. How is your new class? Also my science teacher is Mrs. Goodman.

    1. I am glad Mrs. Pierce is working you so hard! You will learn a lot! Unfortunately, the lizard passed away over the summer, but he was over 2 years old, so he had a nice, long life!
