Week of September 17th-21st!!!

As we enter our final week of summer, I hope everyone gets a chance to go outside and play. It seems like we will all have our winter coats on before we know it. It sure is a hot one outside! Here are some upcoming dates:

Monday: picture day, read 20 minutes
Tuesday: Goof Behavior Party!!, read 20 minutes
Wednesday: Pencil Palace, early dismissal at 2:50, Curriculum night from 6-7 pm, read 20 minutes if you don’t come to Curriculum night
Thursday: chorus after school, read 20 minutes
Friday: Happy Weekend!

ELA: In reading, our new spelling pattern includes words with the -eech sound (beech, screech, leech, speech, breech). We are also finishing our fist novel this week, “Caleb’s Choice”. We will be comparing what we are reading to experiences in the real world. We will focus on the song lyrics, “Respect” and “Respect Yourself”. Our novel and these two songs describe how African Americans were treated poorly by society, family, or close friends. You can review our skills for the week by visiting:
1. Current Events and News for Kids
2. Making Connections Game
3. Into the Book Activity

Science: In science, we are continuing our unit on weathering and erosion. We will begin talking about the different types of weathering: chemical and mechanical, as well as learning about where all the broken sediment goes and lands, called deposition. We will also learn what humans have done that causes more weathering and erosion, and what we have done to lessen weathering and erosion. Check out these practice activities:
1. Weathering Video
2. Erosion Review
3. Weathering Before and After Activity
