Week of March 26th-30th!!!

I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing spring break, although the weather maybe could have been better. Don’t forget that we have Spring Weekend coming up this Friday and Monday, so students will have 4 days off in a row. Maybe we will get a little more sunshine then. Here are some important upcoming dates:

Monday-Wednesday: read 20 minutes, reading log, Honor Roll forms due back on the 28th
Thursday: Reading Log due, last day to take a Reading Counts quiz for March
Friday-Sunday: No School- Spring Weekend

ELA: We are learning a few new spelling prefixes/suffixes this week. They include:
re- (back): recall, recede, repay, reflect, retract, and rebate

-ship (state or quality of): friendship, hardship, citizenship, and internship

-sion (state or quality of): tension, compulsion

We are also beginning our final group novel titled, “The Capture”. This book is a fantasy book about a group of owls who learn about the “Guardians of Gahoole, a mythical group of owls who rescue other other in times of peril”. The story mirrors a modern day Robin Hood. We will also begin practicing using the testing tools for our upcoming MAP testing. The current schedule looks like:

ELA testing- April 12, 13, 26th
Math testing- April 27th, May 2nd

We will have no new learning targets this week as we practice the online tools used on the MAP testing website. You can explore around the practice test and tools by visiting:

Science: This is our final week of learning new material for our unit 3 science focus. We will wrap up by looking at magnets and how they are similar and different to both static electricity and current electricity. Our test is currently scheduled for Friday, April 6th. All students should now have a practice guide to review this week. We will send home a practice test, another review guide, and flash cards next week. Students may also practice any science activities on this website from December through this week for help. Finally, we will be playing review games in class to help review all learning targets.
