Week of January 15th – 19th!

I am writing this week’s update from home on our cold-weather day off of school. This has been a crazy winter so far, and we haven’t even received that much snow. Plus, looking ahead to the weekend, we should be back into the mid-fifties by the end of the week. Please make sure your children are dressing appropriately for all of these temperature changes this time of year. Here are some important dates coming up:

Tuesday-Thursday: read 20 minutes, complete reading log (if required)
Wednesday: early dismissal at 2:50, STEAM night at Walker from 6:00-7:00 pm
Friday: reading logs due

ELA: This week we will continue our unit on comparing the theme, setting, and pattern of events in two stories from myths, legends, and traditional literature. We will also have our first spelling test of 2018 on Friday. The words include -urse words (purse, nurse), -utch words (clutch, hutch), and -unch words (punch, munch, hunch).

2. Compare and Contrast Characters practice
3. Rags to Riches game

Science:
Students will get to see their unit assessments on Wednesday that they took last week. Any students who scored an A or B will have their assessment hung in the hall for a week or two. Students who scored lower than a B will bring their assessments home in their Friday folders. This week we will begin our new unit on Energy and Electricity with a focus on what energy is, the different types of energy, and how energy is transferred from one form to another. Here are some practice activities:
1. Forms of energy video
