We have been studying properties of matter in science class this week. Students built a fun model of density by making homemade lava lamps. Water is more dense than vegetable oil and will naturally stay separated from oil when mixed together. We can add alka seltzer to the mix and we get a lava lamp effect because the gas bubbles created are less dense and carry water droplets to the surface. Check out these pictures.
