Week of April 3rd-7th!

It is so nice to start a new month with new things to learn, but I am already a little bored with all of the rain we have had lately. I guess the rain will lead to pretty flowers, green grass, and trees full of leaves, but it still has been a little hard to take. Here are some important dates for this week:

Tuesday, April 4th- Cardinals spirit day: wear your Cardinals stuff or at least red
**donate chocolate for our carnival baskets this week! Notes came home the last 2 weeks, and we have received no donations in our class yet.

Wednesday, April 5th: Magic House night from 6-8 pm

Friday, April 7th: 4th grade’s turn to present at the assembly
*Reading logs due

Saturday, April 8th: Walker Elementary carnival from 10-1:00. Flyers have been sent home the last 2 weeks.

ELA: Our new spelling words include words with the suffix: -ling (duckling, yearling, hatchling) and the prefix mis- (misbehave, misconduct, misfortune, mistake, and miscount). We will also turn our focus back to nonfiction by reading and reviewing scientific, technical, and historical text. We will start off with an article about the Civil War and also look at some articles about different plants and animals. Check out these activities to practice:
1. Tracking the Buffalo– using an Native American hide to learn about their lifestyle
2. Practice Online Lesson
3. National Geographic for Kids– read and explore lots of scientific text and videos

Science: Students will be able to see their test scores from our unit test on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I will hang up students who scored an A and will send home the rest. If your students scored an A, they will bring these home in a few weeks. We will also begin our last unit on Animal and Plant Adaptations and Functions. This week we will mainly focus on living versus nonliving and the basic needs of plants and animals. Look for field trip letters coming home in a few weeks for our field trip on May 18th.
1. Living and Nonliving Practice quiz
2. Living and Nonliving game
3. Jeopardy Review
