Week of February 20th-24th!

I hope everyone is getting lots of time to spend outside with all of the beautiful weather we are having. I keep thinking it must be April instead of February!
Here are some important dates for this week:

Wednesday, February 22nd: Curriculum Night from 6-7 pm- come participate in some “Around the World” activities
Friday, February 24th: reading logs due (no reading on President’s Day)

Six Flags Reading Forms due

ELA: We are starting our figurative language unit this week. We will look for ways that authors paint pictures in our minds by adding figurative language to their writing. This includes similes and metaphors (comparing one object to another), personification (giving a nonliving object characteristics of something alive), onomatopoeia (when a word sounds like the noise it makes), hyperbole (over-exaggerating), and alliteration (where every word in a phrase starts with the same letter). We are also beginning our unit on prefixes, suffixes, and root words. This week we will talk about the suffix: -ern (southern, northern, etc). Check out these practice pages:
