Week of October 3rd-October 7th!!!

This is my favorite time of the year! I love the cooler weather, fall decorations, and yummy treats! We have several things happening this week:

Tuesday, October 4th: bookmobile
Wednesday, October 5th: walk or ride your bike to school day!
Friday, October 7th: Reading Logs Due
Wildcat Assembly at 2:45
Popcorn Day 25 cents
Monday, October 10th: no school for Teacher PD

ELA: Students completed their reading unit tests last week and will work on some district assessments this week. Students will take the reading Evaluate test on Monday with a proficient score goal of 70% or higher. On Wednesday, students will take the Scholastic Reading Inventory. This measures their current reading level. On level scores for fourth grade are in a range of 770-870. Be sure to ask your children what they scored in both areas. The rest of the time this week will be used to start a new chapter book: “Chomped”. This book is a silly book about a family who owns an exotic animal zoo and a National Television show. We are not starting any new skills due to testing, but check out information about the “Chomped” author and read an excerpt from the book at:

Science: Students were given their science assessments from Friday this week to see how they did. All A and B papers will be hung in the hallway for Parent Teacher Conferences while C, D, and F scores will be sent home on Friday with Friday Folders. This week we will begin our mini-unit on the Scientific Method. This is a 6-7 step process for fairly conducting a science experiment. Next week students will get the chance to actually conduct experiments with the scientific method. Check out these sites below:

1. Scientific Method Walk the Plank game
2. Scientific Method Study Jams
3. Scientific Method practice quiz
4. Inky the Squid Scientific Method Game

Also, Parent Teacher Request Times went home last Friday with students who have not signed up for a conference yet. Please return these forms as soon as possible so the time you need does not get filled
