Week of August 29th-September 2nd!!!

It seems just like yesterday I was welcoming the class to the first week of school and now we are getting ready to start the second month of school. We have worked really hard practicing our classroom expectations and rules. Students have been given extra time for missing homework and Friday reports, but next week we will expect all work to be turned in on time. Students may have to miss recess for late assignments or missing reports. Here are some important dates coming up:

1. Thursday, September 1st- reading logs are due
2. Friday, September 2nd- no school due to teacher meetings
3. Monday, September 5th- no school due to Labor Day

ELA: This week we continued out study of inferences and continued reading chapters 9-12 in Caleb’s Choice. Students have used their chrombooks to make word clouds about characteristics of a character from the book, comprehension quizzes, and made inferences about what characters meant from dialogue in the story. We also reviewed the sound pattern -ealth. Words such as health, wealth, and stealth fall into this sound pattern. We will have our first spelling test on Thursday, but students will not be asked to just spell a word, they will have to identify words with the correct sound patterns in them. Check out the following for practice:
1. Practice Quiz to review Inferences
2. Inference Jeopardy
3. Inference Video

Science: We continue learning about different ways to measure matter. We used a balance scale to measure mass of solids, a ruler to find the volume of cubes, graduated cylinders to find the volume of both liquids and solids, and a spring scale to find the mass of an object. Check out the following links:
1. Online practice using a graduated cylinder
2. Online spring scale practice
3. online volume of a cube practice (may need a calculator)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Get a lot of rest and enjoy!
