Week of November 2nd-6th!!

Can you believe it is already November? This year is flying by! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Halloween, and enjoyed the extra day off on Monday. We have a pretty regular week with only the Wildcat Assembly at 2:45 planned on Friday. Friday will also be popcorn day, so bring your 25 cents to participate!

ELA: This week we will continue our study on nonfiction text. We will concentrate on explaining scientific text using details from the text and vocabulary. Students will be comparing the tropical rainforest to the temperate forest. Our working with words time will be dedicated to the sound pattern -etch (sketch, fetch, stretch) and the suffix -ling, meaning small (duckling, fledgling, hatchling). Check out the activities below:
1. EEK! Nature Articles– students can practice reading nonfiction articles and explaining/paraphrasing important details and ideas.
2. How it Works Videos-students can watch a video about how something works and then practice summarizing/paraphrasing the ideas at home.

Science: We will begin discussing rapid changes to Earth’s surfaces through volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, drought, and landslides. We are also wrapping up this unit and will be taking the unit test next Friday, November 13th. Look for study guides, flash cards, and practice tests to come home later this week or early next week.
1. Volcano Resource List– tons of webpages about volcano facts, pictures, and videos
2. Amazing Volcano Videos
3. Earthquake Safety Game
