Week of August 31-September 4th

Welcome back to another wonderful week of fourth grade!!! I apologize that you did not get weekly reports on Friday, I was out sick on Thursday and Friday and the sub forgot to send them home. Your child will be taking them home tonight in their homework folder. Please review, sign, and return tomorrow. Here are some important reminders for this week:

1. I am sending home the first “reading log” tonight. This will look much different than the one from third grade. Students will be given two worksheets to complete, at home, about the chapter book they are reading for their 20 minutes. The worksheets going home this month include the topics of making inferences and cause and effect. If your child needs practice on these skills before filling out the worksheet, please have them review the posts from the lasts two weeks. These reading logs are due the last day of September, the 30th. This will give all students plenty of time to complete their chapter book from the library, think about what they read, and complete the worksheets.

2. We will have our first Wildcat Assembly on Friday. This is a chance to recognize all the good things our students have been doing at Walker during the month of August. The time will begin at 2:45. Please notice this is a new start time from last year.

What are we learning this week?

ELA- In English Language Arts, we will continue with our lesson on cause/effect in scientific texts. We will also begin our unit on components of poetry and drama. Please check out the practice websites below:

1. Youtube Video About Drama and Poetry

2. Poetry and Drama Review Game

Science- We will wrap up our unit on volume by doing displacement of water by objects to calculate volume (see web links from last week for help) and then complete a review worksheet. In the middle of the week, we will move onto to the three phases of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. We will focus on their molecule structure and what causes them to change phases. See below for example activities to review:

1. Tons of Review Games for Phases of Matter

2. Matter Sorter Game

3. Sort Matter into the Correct Phases

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
